DURATION
January 2019 - April 2019
Objective
An attempt to assist people suffering from various photosensitive diseases and reduce stress caused to the eyes due to artificial lighting. Users will be able to change the colour of the lights in their houses with a single word voice command.
Photosensitive illnesses
1. Migraine
2. Insomnia (Sleep disorders)
3. Autism
4. Photosensitive Epilepsy
5. Alzheimer’s
6. Depression
7. Parkinson’s Disease
8. Dyslexia
9. Other learning disabilities
Proposed Key Features
1. Customizations for each member of the house.
2. Lights change colour and intensity as per set instructions.
3. Voice-enabled control: to set instructions initially for regular usability.
Effect of Colour and Intensity
Research showed that some studies demonstrate that GREEN LIGHT is least likely to exacerbate MIGRAINE headaches and that at low intensities it may even be therapeutic by reducing the headache intensity.
The discomfort threshold of migraineurs is lower when exposed to low (380–530 nm) and high (580–730 nm) compared to medium (430–630 nm) wavelength of lights.

Components
1. Raspberry Pi Zero W
2. Neopixel / WS28216 RGB LED - 17
3. Android Speech to Text Mobile App for data
transfer over UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
4. Power Supply - 5V battery
5. USB Microphone
Tools Used

Prototype Device
The final lighting device was similar to a chandelier, made with wood, with grooves for the LED strip on the circumference.
Used wood as a mounting material for the LED strip due to ease of availability, cost-effectiveness, and quick prototyping. Steel, glass, aluminum, and any waterproof material can be used for mounting the LED lights.
The device can be fixed like a chandelier, mounted on the wall, or used as a table lamp as well.

Material - Wood
Dimension - 6 inches diameter
Note - Prototype is not to scale.
